Ryan Barron Memorial Skate Park

Ernest Atkinson Park, located at 2005 Riverside Drive, West, is a vibrant community space in Windsor’s west end. With amenities including a soccer field, outdoor swimming pool, accessible playground, and skateboard park, it serves as a popular hub for local youth and families.

In 2017, the City of Windsor, in partnership with the Friends for Atkinson Pool & Park Committee (FFAPPC), began exploring ways to upgrade the existing skate park. While funding presented some challenges, the vision remained strong.

In 2023, the skate park was officially named the Ryan Barron Memorial Skate Park, in honour of Ryan Barron — a beloved local skateboarder, community organizer, and promoter of Windsor’s skateboarding and music scene — who passed away in 2016. In May 2025, City Council received a report in response to Council Question 43-2024 with an update on the Barron Bowl project. Council approved matching funds of up to $59,261, bringing the current project budget to a maximum of $118,522. Donations continue to be accepted, and the final scope of improvements will depend on the total funds raised. Community contributions will play a key role maximizing the number of enhancements that can be delivered at the skate park.

Today, renewed interest in enhancing the skate park has opened the door for future improvements — and we want your input. Complete the survey by 4:00 p.m. on Monday, October 27, 2025, to help us shape the future of the Ryan Barron Memorial Skate Park!
