Why Home Energy Efficiency Matters

Improving home energy efficiency is one of the most practical and impactful ways to strengthen our community’s long-term resilience and affordability.

Homes are a major part of how energy is used across any community. The way we heat, cool, and power our living spaces has a meaningful influence on overall energy demand, household costs, and environmental performance. Even small improvements — when adopted widely — can create significant collective benefits.

Energy-efficient homes are more comfortable, more affordable to operate, and better positioned to withstand changing weather conditions and energy price fluctuations. Upgrades like improved insulation, air sealing, and modern heating and cooling systems help reduce wasted energy, lower utility bills, and enhance indoor comfort year-round.

In addition to cost savings for residents, improving home energy performance supports broader economic and community goals by creating local jobs in construction and retrofit industries, reducing strain on infrastructure, contributing to reductions in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and strengthening long-term sustainability.

Ultimately, home energy efficiency is about helping residents save money, improve comfort, and contribute to a stronger and more resilient Windsor.
