Ahead of the 2024 budget development process, the City of Windsor is once again offering its residents online public engagement tools that allow the users to share their spending priorities and have a say in balancing the City’s bottom line.
The tool, Balancing Act, is a third-party public engagement platform that educates the public on how their tax dollars are spent, prioritize the spending of capital dollars and adjust how the City spends its operating tax dollars while maintaining a balanced budget.
The tools, described below, are user-friendly and simple to use which make them an attractive addition to the overall public engagement opportunities offered to residents.
The Simulation tool allows residents to adjust the City of Windsor’s Approved Property Tax Funded Operating Budget by increasing, decreasing, or maintaining spending for various city services. Users may make their adjustments and share comments regarding their choices. To access the simulation tool, click here.
The Prioritize tool allows residents to provide input on their priorities for the upcoming 10-year capital budget plan. Users are able to select the capital investment areas that are important to them and then rank their preferences. The resulting data provides a deeper insight into the priorities of residents as they relate to competing capital funding and corporate initiatives. To access the prioritize tool, click here.
The Taxpayer Receipt toolallows residents to input their municipal property taxes in order to generate an estimated tax receipt that shows a breakdown of how their tax dollars are spent. This receipt is an extremely powerful educational tool, which allows residents to better understand where their tax dollars go. To access the taxpayer receipt tool, click here.
